Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach Tours from Bay of Islands - Maori consider Cape Reinga (Te Rerenga-Wairua) the jumping-off point for souls as they depart on the journey to their spiritual homeland.
That makes the Aupouri Peninsula a giant diving board, and it certainly resembles one – long and thin, it reaches 108km to form NZ’s northern extremity.
On its west coast Ninety Mile Beach (Ninety Kilometre Beach would be more accurate) is a continuous stretch lined with high sand dunes, flanked by the Aupouri Forest.
Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach Tours - Highlights:
Be guided by experienced driver guides to Cape Reinga, the place where Maori spirits depart for ancient Hawaiiki. Sense the power of the ancient Kauri giant trees, shoot down massive sand dunes on sandboarding or wriggle your toes in the sand to gather your own shellfish.
The Waverider coaches are air-conditioned and designed for your comfort to cope with the rugged journey along the magnificent 90 Mile Beach, over sand, unsealed roads and quicksand streams.
All this activity is bound to build your appetite and the exclusive lunch stop at the Houhora Game Fishing Club, overlooking the stunning Houhora harbor, offers the opportunity to try a delicious "Kiwi BBQ" lunch.
This is an action packed day with ample opportunities to stop and simply enjoy this unique part of New Zealand.

Absolutely enjoyed the trip. Got some amazing photos and would recommend as a must do for both tourists and NZer's. Remember that song- "We Don't Know How Lucky We Are" That's what came to mind as we travelled.

Excellent tour guide and driver Barry - full of enthusiasm for the job he knew such a lot about the area and was able to elaborate on so much of Maori Culture and life. Barry even sang Maori greetings and farewells. A must do trip!
